What is the FLU SV MRNA-002 (217884) Study?
The FLU SV MRNA-002 (217884) Study is testing a new flu seasonal mRNA vaccine to see if it can provide protection against the flu in healthy adults. The flu seasonal mRNA vaccine teaches your cells how to make a small piece of the flu virus. This small piece will trigger your immune system to respond against that flu virus if you come across it in the future. One advantage of mRNA vaccines is that they are quicker to make. As flu viruses often change, making vaccines quicker could help target specific flu viruses and better protect people against them.
Who can participate in the study?
This study is for adults from 18 to 85 years of age.

Why should I participate?
The flu is a common infectious disease caused by influenza (flu) viruses. The flu usually affects a person's breathing system. Vaccination (the flu shot) against this disease is the best way to prevent yourself from catching it. However, flu viruses are always changing in order to escape the body’s defense system. Different, quicker ways to make flu vaccines that are more precise are needed. Your participation in this study could help find a vaccine designed to work against multiple influenza viruses. Without volunteers like you, we won’t be able to make progress in flu vaccine research and help so many people.

What happens
during the study?
You will need to come to the clinic for up to 6 planned visits and be available for 1-2 planned contacts. Unscheduled visits and contacts may be needed. The study doctor will let you know the exact number of planned visits and contacts. The contacts may be via telephone, SMS, email, video-telephone, or other means, depending on local best practice.
*Only for some participants
**May be changed to contacts for some participants
What study vaccine will I receive?
You will be assigned randomly (by chance) to receive either:
- One of the flu seasonal mRNA vaccines being studied, or
- Another vaccine already approved for use for the 2023-2024 flu season (also called the study control).
Neither you nor the study doctor will know which vaccine you will receive.
The study treatment will be given as an injection at the first study visit.
